L'Entrée du Christ à Bruxelles (1896)
Eau-forte, 248 x 355 mm, signée et datée 1896 en bas à droite
"Taevernier nr. 114 ii/ii ; Delteil 114 ; X. Tricot 114. Provenance : ancienne collection Marcel Wandels. Deuxième état très rare. In Ensor's work, Jesus appears as a revolutionary political figures and is acclaimed as the 'King of Brussels' on the day of Shrove Tuesday by a joyful crowd at the height of the carnival. The work also parodies the 'joyful entries' of foreign sovereigns into Flanders and the Netherlands."
