Single leaf, 170 x 120 mm, with single column of 6 lines of as spiky Germanic late gothic bookhand, with music on a 4-line red stave, red rubric, one-line initials in red or blue, three larger penwork initials decorated in red, blue, green and yellow wash with gold granules and with ornamental penwork, one of these with a human face and another with a green dragon and a bird picked out in their decoration (these also touched in yellow wash with gold granules), one large pink initial in acanthus leaves and geometric shapes on highly burnished gold ground within grey and green realistic frame, two sprays of green and pink foliage in margin with a burnished gold 'fruit' at their intersection, some discolouration to edges, cockling and small spots, else good condition
This item once in the collection of Miles Standish Slocum (1887-1956), of Passadena, CA. His library was sold by Christie's, New York, and at California Book Auctions in 1981
