Ex-libris Joannes Haentjens, Lokeren, 1779; Dr M. Carchon e.a. Ref. Krivatsy 8600 ; Doe pp.193-4. Dutch edition (1st Dordrecht 1592) of the complete works of the French royal surgeon A. Paré (1517-1590). Translated by Carel Baten (Ghent ca. 1540-ca. 1617 Amsterdam), physician to the city of Dordrecht (1588-1601). According to Doe, the Dutch editions were far superior to the ""very inferior"" Latin edition. The Dutch editions used the same woodblocks as the French editions. Paré, one of the most notable surgeons of the European Renaissance, is considered one of the fathers of modern surgery and forensic pathology, and was a pioneer in surgical techniques and battlefield medicine
