Traditionally, Anabasis is one of the first unabridged texts studied by students of classical Greek, because of its clear and unadorned prose style in relatively pure Attic dialect. Thálassa! Thálassa! was the cry of joy uttered by the roaming Ten Thousand when they saw the Black Sea from Mount Theches after participating in Cyrus the Younger's failed march against the Persian Empire. Thomas Hutchinson's edition of Xenophon was described by Dibdin as ""admirable"" and ""preceded by none worth mentioning
