The Hague, Adrianus Vlacq, 1654. 129+[2] pp. Contemporary vellum binding, title in ink on spine

"This anonymous pamphlet attacks the executioners of Charles I in 1649, among others John Milton and Cromwell. The author more than once describes the custom in the Civil War to sell the prisoners of war to American slavers for the plantations (Saccarorum operae, Americana ergastula). Pierre du Moulin (1606-80), son of the famous French theologian, sided with the Royalists, was Canon of Canterbury, and had this work published in Holland by Alexander Morus, to whom it also has been ascribed. John Milton wrote a ""Defensio pro Populo Anglicano"" in response (second book). The third book is a reply to that defense"
