Engravings (ca. 13.5 x 10 cm, with blank margins 20 x 15 cm), signed by Crispin de Passe, at the bottom of each portrait is an explanatory epigram in Latin verse composed by the well-known German engraver, Mathias Quadvery, good impressions of the first state
The elegant engravings consist of portraits of the rulers (Andreas Doria, Philippus II, Sultan Mahumet III, Paschalis Ciconia, Sigismundus III, Jacobus VI, Mauritius Nassoviae and Papa Florentinus) who maintained great fleets and of their leading overseas navigators (Columbus, Vespucci, Magellan, and Laudonniere.).
