Extremely rare ed. of this major collection of legislative customs in use in the north of France and in the French-speaking part of the Low Countries. Jean Boutillier (d.1395) highlights the legal spirit of the 14th c. which confused the maxims of Roman lax and feudal law. Het meticulously assembled all the judgments handed down over 22 years by the parliament on the bailiwicks of Vermandois and Tournai. The Somme rural is also a testimony to the customs of the early 15th c. It was printed for the first time in Bruges in 1479, then translated into Dutch and printed in Delft in 1483. Pt.II titled ""Des drois royaulx"". Printed in gothic type, in 2 ol. of 38 ll.; capital spaces with guide-letters. The printing is variously attributed to A. Vénard, A. Caillaut or P. Levet. Nicely rubricated in red and blue, with 3/7-line blue, red or blue and red initials. Ref.: ISTC ib01053000 (only 6 copies); GW 4969; Goff B-1053 and BMC VIII 96
