Guillaume Sylvius
1577
2 parts in 1 vol. in 4°, [2]-120-[1-1 bl.], 95-[1] pp. (pp. 76-78 blank), Woodcut mark on title. Some passages in civilité. Some cont. notes in margins. Half calf 19th c. Good copy. One of the most important pamphlets from the crucial phase of the Dutch Revolt, in all probability written by Marnix de Ste Aldegonde. This is the 3rd French ed. It defends the position of the States General, and of William of Orange, against Don Juan, Archduke of Austria. The 2nd text, in Spanish and French, gives additional arguments for the revolutionary party. The printing is now ascribed to C. Plantin and Gillis van den Rade, with Willem Silvius acting as publisher of the anti-Spanish factions
