[CHARTER ISSUED BY THE LORD OF GUIGNY]

Document issued by Anthoine 'de Hardenthun (d'Anvin), lord of Guigny (Pas-de-Calais, modern France), concerning the sale of woodland to Jehan Bonnant, in French, single-sheet manuscript document on vellum
[France (Pas-de-Calais)
dated 14 February 1457]
€240 - €360

Single-sheet charter, with 8 lines of text in a clear secretarial hand, some ornamental penwork cadels to uppermost and lowermost lines, one enlarged penwork initial, the issuer's scrawled signature at foot, later collection label '3441' at edge, some folds and small spots, else in excellent condition, 100 by 310mm

The issuer and signatory here was Antoine II de Hardenthun, lord of Guigny and La Motte-Buleux and lieutenant general of water and forests in Picardy. He took over from his father and namesake around 1440, and died sometime after 1467. His family were among the most prominent dynasties of the Pas-de-Calais region, and his father appears to have been knighted by Philip the Good, duke of Burgundy
