The surviving work of the 2nd-3rd century Greek writer, the Ephesian Tale of Anthia and Habrocomes, one of the earliest novels as well as one of the sources for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Habrocomes and Anthia, a devastatingly beautiful pair of wealthy origin are captured by pirates while on voyage together. This novel is one of the most action-packed and enjoyable in all of Ancient Greek literature. Xenophon of Ephesus is not to be confused with the much earlier Greek historian and soldier, Xenophon of Athens
