"Ref. Moreau V:1851 ; Mortimer (Harvard French) 333. Not in Adams. The original text of the ""Philippic Histories"" has been lost and is preserved only in excerpts by other authors and in a loose epitome by the later historian Justin. Justin aimed only to preserve the parts he felt most important or interesting about Pompeius Trogus's work. ""With three exceptions, the illustrations represent Janot's general stock, blocks of a considerable range in style but a uniform size. There are, in addition two conventional blocks of court subjects, heavily shaded... Janot's close affinity with Geoffroy Tory may be seen in his continuance of Tory's experiments in the italianate woodcuts. The style was particularly well suited to the small blocks"" (Mortimer)"
