NONNUS PANOPOLITANUS

Graeca paraphrasis sancti Euangelii secundum Ioannem. Cum interpretatione Latina, & ipso D. Ioannis Evangelio Graeco. Franciscus Nansius emendauit, poliuit, & compluribus versibus auxit
Leiden
Plantin Press (Christophorus Raphelengius)
1599
€200 - €300

8vo: [16]-295-[1 bl.] pp. Woodcut mark on title. (sl. toned, blank bottom corner D2 repaired). Old overl. vellum, flat spine titled in ink, red edges (a recasing?, mod. endpapers). Very good copy

This is the second (and rare) one of the two editions by Nansius published by the Leyden Plantin Office. The first one (1589) had the Greek- and the Latin text divided in two separate parts; our edition has the Greek text on the left-hand page and the Latin translation together with the Greek variants on the right-hand page. The humanist Franciscus Nansius (ca. 1520- 1595) was born in IJzenberge, he worked in Bruges, but for religious reasons he moved to Leiden and later taught Greek at the Latin school of Dordrecht.
