€280 - €360

8vo, [24], 150,[48], 201-396, [14] pp, engr. front., with 3 folding and 18 full-page engr. Some dampst., some old notes on endpapers. Full cont. vellum

Second enlarged edition of these two treatises by Girolamo Maggi. The first enlarged edition was printed by Andreas Frisius in Amsterdam in 1664. Girolimo Maggi (d. 1572) was a military engineer in the service of the Republic of Venice. It was in prison that he wrote these two most interesting treatises: one on bells and carillons, followed by a, considering the circumstances, very appropriate one on 'the horse' and other instruments of torture, illustrated in a horrible way. - Fine copy. NBG 32, 698f.
