Claude de Sainctes (1525-1591) was an ardent Catholic and an anti-Protestant controversialist; this early work of his contains the first printing of the liturgy of St James, used by Eastern Christians, and which is thought to be the earliest surviving liturgy, dating to the fourth century. The volume also contains the eastern liturgies of St John Chrysostom and St Basil and other later texts including explanations of those liturgies, one being by Cardinal Bessarion.
