Single leaf, with text in single column of two-sizes of 14 lines of an excellent gothic bookhand, spaces left for rubrics, 2-line initials in blue or pink with overlaid white penwork, enclosing sprays of ivy-leaf foliage on burnished gold grounds, terminating in trailing coloured and gilt foliage sprays in the margins, one vertical text border on each side in gold and colours and terminating in parallel sprays of similar foliage in upper and lower margins, the recto with a stork perched on the foliage at the foot, and two tiny and detailed brown wild boars running up the vertical border, the recto with a coloured dragon at its head snapping at the foliage, a few spots and stains, else in excellent condition, 180 by 125mm
From an extra-illustrated devotional book evidently made for a Breton patron around the turn of the fifteenth century, and by the end of the fifteenth century in the hands of an owner named ""Gualtier Hardwne"" and thence passing by descent through the Hardouin family of Quimper. That book sold in Bloomsbury Auctions, 6 July 2017, lot 115, and thereafter dispersed
