[LEAF FROM A PORTABLE GERMAN MISSAL]

Leaf from a Missal, in Latin, decorated manuscript on paper

[Germany
15th century]

€140 - €240

Single leaf, with text in double column of 32 lines of a scrawled late gothic bookhand, initials and rubrics in pale red (one of the largest with baubles mounted in its body), remains of watermark (top of cow's head surmounted by a Cross), recovered from reuse in a binding and hence with stains, folds, small splits and pinpricks, overall fair and presentable condition, 215 by 150mm

This leaf is from a quite homely, and perhaps even personal, devotional manual, probably produced by a German cleric in the fifteenth century for their own use
