Square cutting from a large leaf, enclosing an initial 'S' in red heightened and shaded with white and black penwork picking out geometric designs along its body, the arms of the initial terminating in sprays of blue, burgundy and red acanthus leaves, the letter also enclosing sprays of similar foliage in green, red and blue, the midpoints of the letter with baubles in blue and red, all on burnished gold grounds edged in thick black ink, gold fruit encircled with radiating penwork sprays emerging from edges of acanthus leaves in margin, along with one small tendril enclosing gold bezants and a diagonal gold panel in same place, remains of 7 lines of a good liturgical hand, with a red rubric and remains of two pale blue initials, slightly cockled, small spots and stains, not examined out of frame, approximately 230 by 205mm.; framed
