One of the great source books of antiquity (Stillwell), an encyclopedia of natural history in 37 books dating from the 1st century A.D., first published in 1469 and frequently reprinted. Edited by Jacques Dalechamps (1513-1588), a naturalist. Dalechamps set out to write a general history of all known plants, Historiae generalis plantarum, though he did not complete that work.
