Scholarly edition by Henri (II) Estienne of Gellius' popular commonplace book, with notes on grammar, philosophy, history, antiquarianism, and other subjects, preserving fragments of the works of many authors who might otherwise be unknown today. ""With the famous preface dedicated to his son Paul ... the most important autobiographical document Henri Estienne has left to us"" (Schreiber). As usual without the annotations by L. Carrio announced on the title-page but published at a later date.
