"In-folio oblong (26 x 34 cm), 2 series of engravings by Melchior Küsel after Johann Wilhelm BAUER, the first one with a frontispiece, engraved title ""Augen und Hertzen belustigende Abbildungen der hoechsttröstlichen Historie wiederewige Sohn Gottes..."", 2 pages of text, 33 engravings (ca. 150 x 205 mm), the second series with a frontispiece, engraved title ""Zu Erweckung der Andacht dienende Betrachtungen über das Bittere Leiden, Sterben und Auferstehen unseres Herrn und Heylandes Jesu Christi"", 4 pages of text, 24 engravings (ca. 170 x 250 mm). Marginal foxing, a few stains, marginal wormhole in the beginning of the volume, crease in the last 2 engravings. Together: 59 engravings. Old brown cardboard binding (somewhat soiled)"

Beautiful baroque scenes of the Life, Death and Resurrection of Christ, situated in landscapes or architectural background. Johann Wilhem Bauer (1607-1640) was born in Strasbourg, travelled to Italy and died in Vienna. Many of his drawings were engraved by Melchior Küsel of Augsburg, Johann Ulrich Kraus was his son-in-law
