1503)
€3.000 - €5.000

16mo (13 x 9,5 cm), [224] ff (in this copy amounting to [245] ff. as some 15 ff. and other ff. have been replaced in contemporary handwriting). Title soiled, some marginal staining. Entirely printed in red and black. There are 2 circular woodcuts in the calendar part and some 73 woodcuts (4 full-page, 69 smaller) in text. The present copy has been adapted by a skilled contemporary reader, who added names to the calendar, rubricated initials and copied or replaced a number of leaves, wholly (15) or partially (25), in professional handwriting, making it into a very personal and unique book. Woodcut mark printed in red at the end. 19th century gilt mottled leather (signed Hammond), covers with gilt border frame, gilt spine with morocco label, gilt sides, all edges gilt, marbled endleaves (rubbed, front joint splitting, loosening at lower inner joint, lower flyleaf loose)

Very rare early edition of the most popular pre-Reformation prayer anthology, famous for its illustrations. Ref. VD16 H-5042 ; Bohatta III 13 ; Oldenbourg, Baldung L13 ; Graesse III 373
