[LITURGIE]

Breviarium Romanum ex sacra potissimum scriptura, & probatis sanctorum
Venice
in officina haer. Lucantonio Giunta
1563
€450 - €700

8vo, [24], 527, [1] ff, printer's mark in red on title page an on last page, entirely printed in red and black. Illustrated with several small and 3 full-page woodcuts. Some pale damp staining in corners. Bound in full vellum (recuperation of a manuscript music leaf)

In the 1560's, the brothers Tommaso and Giovan Maria Giunta were trying to recover financially from the fire that had destroyed their workshop in Venice in 1557. Taking few risks, they relied throughout the decade on psalters, graduals, missals, breviaries and antiphonaries. In designing these religious texts, the friars were inspired by the model of the missal that their father, Lucantonio Giunta, had published in 1501.
